The classic heavyweight began to appear in , and replaced the previous short sleeved player type very quickly. It inherited a range of fifty-two teams, and the World Cup range. The catalogue is the one that crosses over, with teams painted in both figures. This is important, because some of the club colours change around this time, meaning that some of the earlier colours were produced in the new figure for a very short time.
The inherited kits were mainly standard footballing colours used by teams the world over. However, a few odd little kits had began to creep into the lists in the s such as Oldham at 37 and Grimsby at ref Even by the time of the heavyweight figure, a couple of these stranger kits were not being used by anyone.
However, this did not stop Subbuteo from selling them, and they continued to turn up throughout the s. Share 16 shares Researchers from the University of Exeter have analysed two turkey femurs one pictured and an ulna, which were found alongside Spanish, German and Italian pottery and glassware. While the bones were first discovered in , they have now been analysed, and dated to Strickland brought six turkeys from Native American traders, and after he sailed back with them to Bristol, which is 80 miles away from Exeter, sold them for tuppence each.
Turkeys would have been a rare sight when they first appeared in England, and the first birds are likely to have been kept as pets, rather than served as food. But by , turkeys were commonly eaten at Christmas dinners. Strickland continued to import wild turkeys, which were eaten by Native Americans, who used their feathers for ceremonial purposes such as headdresses and robes.
He adopted the turkey as the symbol on his family crest in , reported to be the first depiction of turkey in Britain. The church where Strickland is buried has images of turkeys in stained-glass windows, a carved lectern and stone sculptures on the walls. Also found at the site were the remains of a veal calf, several chickens, at least one goose and a sheep.

Every seventh day is a sabbath ; the seventh month is sacred; the seventh year is a sabbatical year. The jubilee year was brought about by the number seven multiplied by seven; the feast of the Azymes lasted seven days, like the paschal feast ; the feast of Pentecost was seven times seven days after the Pasch ; the feast of the Tabernacles lasted seven days, the days of convocation numbered seven Willis, “Worship of the Old Covenant”, ; “Dict.
Feast and Fasts, I, The eighth day was the day of circumcision Genesis The feast of the Tabernacles, which as we have said lasted seven days, was followed on the eighth by a solemnity which may be considered as an octave Leviticus It was on the eighth day, too, that the feast of the dedication of the Temple under Solomon, and of its purifications under Ezechias concluded 2 Chronicles 7: The ogdoad of the Egyptians and similar numerical phantasies among other peoples had no influence on Christian liturgy.
At first the Christian feasts have no octaves. Sunday, which may in a sense be considered the first Christian feast, falls on the seventh day; the feasts of Easter and Pentecost, which are, with Sunday the most ancient, form as it were only a single feast of fifty days. The feast of Christmas, which too is very old, had originally no octave. In the fourth century, when the primitive idea of the fifty days’ feast of the paschal time began to grow dim, Easter and Pentecost were given octaves.
Possibly at first this was only a baptismal custom, the neophytes remaining in a kind of joyful retreat from Easter or Pentecost till the following Sunday. Moreover, the Sunday which, after the feasts of Easter and Pentecost, fell on the eighth day, came as a natural conclusion of the seven feast days after these two festivals. The octave, therefore, would have in a certain sense developed of its own accord.
